Fellow Scouters:
I tried to keep quiet, but I can't bear it any more. I think that the
use of electronic entertainment or other gear on troop campouts should
be a PLC decission with SM guidance. If you feel that your program is
compromised by their presence, then ban them. If not then permit them
As for our troop, Any activity or thing that infringes on the presetntation
of the planned program is not acceptable. Than means unless the group
has decided otherwise, If I hear it, its gone till the end of the outing.
And if they hear mine, Its gone till the end of the outing. In either
case, the confiscated item is placed in the troop equipment box.
On a side note: Our troop has been congratulating itself for completing
a trip to Haliburton with virtualy the whole troop and not having a single
episode of homesickness. In retrospect, maybe the program wasn't the only
reason. Perhaps it was because they brought home with them. ha ha
radios, tape, players, TVs...... The only thing We did say before the trip
was that they should be carefull about tape and CD players as the dirt
at Haliburton is very abrasive. I NEVER missed a loon call or the song
of a still unidentified bird or a fish splash or a leaf rustle. I NEVER
heard or saw one of the appliances in use except on the bus up and back.
I was amazed when my son told me that he could choose from three TV stations
while in his tent at Haliburton. Guess I'm what they call a bad parent. ;->
Forget worrying about these distractions and concentrate on providing a
quality FUN FUN F-U-N program that keeps their intrest and teaches them.
By the way. For those of you who say there is no where to plug them in:
