I'm EXHAUSTED this AM, but wanted to quickly report on our successful Eagle
CoH. Thanks to all your suggestions, we had a great ceremony. We had
roughly 40 in attendance, including a few Cubs/Webelos. Even though we had
one week to prepare, we managed to have a rep from both Council and
District. Our COR was there, and a City Council Member (it IS an election
year for him, after all!) Our COR presented the new Eagle with a silver
dollar, speaking of the symbolism of the eagle on the flip side of the coin,
the church minister presented him (and the troop) with an engraved plaque to
place on our new troop storage shed (his Eagle project), and the YPPO from
Navy Recruiting District Atlanta presented him with a framed certificate and
Letter of Commendation from the CO. I was up at 1AM Sunday nite (make that
Monday morning!) finishing a Memory Book. Trying to locate pictures all
weekend turned into a major task. Finally we located a few. We borrowed
the Eagle medal and mother's pin from another Eagle family as it will be
weeks before we receive everything from Texas. There were a few tears
(Eagle Scout included), especially when Mom pinned on the medal, and then
when Eagle pinned on the Mom's pin. The family held up well, considering
what the Mother is facing this AM (she is being admitted to the hospital
today for extensive cancer chemo-treatment). I flew home from work late
yesterday afternoon, changed into my uniform, grabbed stuff from the house
and took off to set up -- this was to begin at 7pm. I was there at 6:00 and
still the only one there at 6:30, and thanks to my 11-yr old son we managed
to get all the huge folding tables down and stashed in a corner and the
chairs arranged. We were only 15 minutes late starting -- but that's
traditional, isn't it :-)
I'm brain-dead today. No dinner last night (made it home about 9:45), about
1 hr. sleep Sunday night. I feel like I've been hit head-on by a Mack
Truck. But it's one of the best feelings I've had in a very long time.
