or the local Councils.

>I am a Junior Girl Scout leader in Sacramento. This summer our troop
worked on Troop Camper, Finding My Way (orienteering), Native People of the
USA; as well as Art in The Home and Art to Wear. We went to the Woodland
Opera House and Chaw'se Indian Grinding Rock State Park. Our next overnight
is to Calaveras Big Trees. We have done this, because our troop members
wanted to. The course that a Girl Scout troop takes is decided by the troop
members.
>
>Boy Scouts do cook and sew also. Planning, shopping and cooking of meals
is a part of a lot of the Merit badge work. Most Scouts are responsible for
the application of their own badges, and many dens and troops take the time
to teach the boys different methods of sewing.
>
>But through all of this, no one has taken into account the impact of this
law suit. Where is the money going to answer this frivolous law suit? What
Boy Scout programs are not going to happen because of this suit? How many
of the wonderful programs that were scheduled to be offered by Golden Empire
Council will be cancelled due to the $$$ spent on defending this frivolous
suit? Did Ms. Allred choose to sue a Council, instead of National, because
she knows the limited resources that a Council has? My son is a Webelo
Scout, he gets to feel the effects of this lawsuit.
>
>How do the Yeaw's know that Girl Scouts doesn't offer a program that their
daughter wants? The article said that they didn't believe that there was a
Girl Scout troop. It is a shame that Katrina Yeaw's parents are not devoting
the same time and energy to a Scouting experience for Katrina that they are
putting into this lawsuit. Why did the Yeaw's not go to the Girl Scout
Council and ask for the program they wanted? Why did they not look for a
comparable Girl Scout troop. They say they can't find a troop, but they have
the time and the energy to engage in a law suit? I think the Yeaw's
resources could have been put to better use -- as in taking charge of the
girl's outdoor program desires within Girl Scouting.
>
>Girl Scouts has long had achievement levels in the Silver, Rose and Gold
Awards. All of these entail long hours of Community Service and involvement
in Interest Projects. And knowledgeable members of the Boy Scouts have long
agreed that they are comparable awards to those in Boy Scouts.
