Scouts Mag. - Who gets it? Thanks

Just a quick note of thanks for your kind answers. I had been given the
apparent misinformation about only registered DL's, ADL's and CM's receiving
Scout Mag. by several different sources, so apparently this is a favorite
rumor around here. I do know that I was registered those years that I did
not receive the Scout Mag. as I did receive my membership card each year - so
I truely don't know how it came about that I did not receive it. My post had
nothing whatsoever to do with feeling unappreciated, just with frustration
because I missed out on a great resource for my Scouts and myself. Once I
moved and became registered in NE I have received it regularly and greatly
enjoy the magazine and the information it provides. I only used the position
of Popcorn Kernal as an example, I could care less if it is a registered
position or not. My mistake.
My only goal in Scouting is to provide a fun, interesting and informative
program for the Scouts. I am particularly proud of my 2nd Yr. Webelos Den
this week as we started up our new school year with a discussion of what we
wish to accomplish during the coming months. All of my Den attended Webelos
Camp this Summer and the counselors had signed off most of Forester and all
of the Geologist Activity Badges. I also attended Camp with my Scouts and
watched a bunch of Boy Scouts with little to no knowledge of these badges
supposedly lead the boys through the requirements. This was an unfortunate
situation. These were younger Boy Scouts and they were not supervised during
these sessions. Alot of the information they passed on to the Webelos was
poorly stated, or out and out incorrect.
During our meeting I read to my Den the requirements that were checked
off as completed and the boy's did not even recognize that they had done any
of the stated requirements (other than identifying poisonous plants), or
laughingly explained to me what they had been told to do to meet the
requirements ( they spent a short time on a hike in the woods without the
leaders). For example, they listened to some birds but no one knew which
birds they were and for Geologist they were told to find five different
decortative rocks on their hike, but they never identified them or discussed
their properties. Anyway, all complaining aside (many leaders had their say
on the camp evaluation forms), my Scouts voted not to receive those badges
right yet, and to accomplish them again as a Den! We always have a ball in
our Den meetings and usually exceed the badge's requirements because we so
enjoy learning about the subjects!! I was glad that the Scouts saw for
themselves that they did not meet the "Do Your Best" criteria!!!
