Camp antedotes

Thought I would pass on one of my favourites;

About 15 years ago I was a young Leader who went on a Cub Scout Camp (Cub
Scouts camp on weekends at all age levels here), it was a bitterly cold night
for us (about 2 degress centigrade) and at about half past three on the
Saturday morning, a young eight year old came and woke me up and told me he had
to go to the toilet, I said it's outside the door, just walk across to the
light (about 25 yards) and he would be there - "But my mom told me I was not to
go to the toilet at night by myself" he answered.

To save an argument I decided to go with him, as I stepped out of the door, I
saw that there was a frost down and this little set of footprints left the
door, disappeared around one side of the lake and re-appeared around the other
side and then came in the door, I asked the Cub Scout who had got up and gone
for a walk and said "me! I wanted to see the ducks!", I then asked him - "why,
if you can walk around the lake in the middle of the night -WITHOUT PERMISSION,
do I have to get up and take you to the toilet?", he looked at me with big blue
eyes and said "because my mom said I was not allowed to go to the toilet at
night by myself!".

Any urge I had to go myself died, and I retired to my sleeping bag (and the
kid, we checked his bag, but it wasn't wet the next morning - how did he hang
on, or did he really want to go).

I believe this kid is still in Scouting somewhere in Australia as a Leader (he
is in the Army).
