Another fund raising idea.

While I'm packaging them, I thought that I'd pass on another fund raising
idea... collecting and recycling used laser printer toner cartridges. In the
past three months, I've collected 64 various types of used cartridges,
either from the printers that I administer, or from contacts that send them
to me.

For most of the cartridges, the Troop will receive from $3.00 to $5.00 each.
The balance of them bring in up to $15.00 per cartridge. These values
change, depending upon the recycler you deal with, and the existing demand
for the type of cartridge, and so forth.

Before I started to collect them, I passed it by my employer, and although
they refused to 'officially' support the Scouts, they didn't specifically
say I couldn't. They did, however, point out that we didn't have an
'official' policy of employees going through the refuse bins. (Bureaucratic
double-speak is just marvelous when done by experts.)

After seven years of what seems like almost constant fundraising, I like the
fact that it keeps the empties out of the landfills and raises a few bucks
for Scouts for almost no effort at all.

YIS,

Jim.
