While we all hope that we as Scouters get along well with almost anyone, there
is blame on both sides. I have seen troops where the Scouters also need to be
reminded not only that Scouting is for the youths, but that they need to listen
to the parents (sometimes also read "Committee members"). If the Scouters are
not easily approachable, then a Troop with a different focus may be what is
needed.
As long as the Parents get involved, then any Troop can be successful,
regardless of size. If the Parents have the attitude of BSA as a "baby sitting
association" then they will only hurt the Troop and their children. I have
noticed that it is the rare boy who makes Eagle who does not have at least one
Parent registered and involved. They also stay in the program longer.
