Back from Wood Badge

Carol Breuer (CBreuer@VINES.COLOSTATE.EDU)

After being gone nearly two weeks I returned to find more than 500 messages
from this list in my mailbox, (oops, made a typo when trying to set to
nomail) but it has been interesting catching up again.

I would like to report that Longs Peak Council's Boy Scout Wood Badge Course
W5-62-95 was a big success. We had a super staff but our 39 enthusiastic
participants really kept us hopping, and the end result was probably the best
course ever held in this council. There was lots of patrol spirit and a
strong sense of belonging to Troop 1 of Gilwell. It makes the hours of
preparation and hard work of being on staff worth all the effort, and, after
I get rested up a little more, I will be ready to go back and do it again!

Our theme was Scouting Around the World, and each day in our course newspaper
(of which I was the editor) a different country was featured, telling some
about the Scout program in that country. Thanks to those of you on the list
in other countries who shared info with me. It was a big help and really
added to our theme. I also found quite a bit of info browzing on the Web. I
think that might come under Knowing and Using Resources.

Another interesting note is that one of our participants was a young lady
from Ireland who had spent the summer at one of our council camps on
International Camp Staff. She added a lot to the overall experience as well
as to our theme. She will be returning to Ireland soon, but she and her
patrol are determined to keep in touch, and intend to utilize the Internet to
do so. She was collecting their email addresses and intends to set up her
own email just as soon as she gets home and settled.

I'm looking forward to participating in the future discussions on this list.
I find that it really broadens my outlook on the whole Scouting program.
