CRAFT: marshmallow toasters

I have learned to haunt the thrift stores for craft materials. The latest
find went over very well. I found one of those old beaded car seats that
had been discarded as soon to be falling apart. That made it so much
easier to salvage the beads. They were just the right size for insulating
the handle on a coat hangar wire skewer for marshmallows or whatever. The
hole thru the bead is large enough for the wire to thread thru easily but
if you double the wire back on itself at the end in a little loop the
wire loop will not pass thru but you can tuck the end of the wire into
the bead hole, it comes out looking nice and clean.
About a dozen beads and then another loop, this time a full 360 turn,
coming down a little below the beads as you loop so when squeezed into
place it will act as a spring and hold the beads tightly against each
other. Finish by using some steel wool to remove the plastic coating on
the wire. Optional file the end of the wire smooth.

I think one of the handbooks showed how to do this with spools, but so
few people do much sewing anymore and most spools are plastic now. The
car seat beads make a great replacement and look fantastic on the
finished product.
