Terry Slade seems to have some strange ideas about how Scouting started.
Scouting for Boys was written at the suggestion of William Smith , the
founder of the Boys Brigade. The object of BB was to develop Christian
manhood. The BB had a Scouting program within its organisation.
However, other kids also bought " Scouting for Boys " and formed Scout
troops, and wrote to B-P for advice. B-P set up a small office , but the
workload increased. B-P was called to Buckingham Palace, and the King
said that he would do more to serve his country by fostering good
citizenship in the young than by continuing with his military career,
so he resigned his commission and concentrated on Scouting.
The Boys Brigade Scouts continued for a few years then withered away,
either becoming troops in the Boy scouts Association or returning to
traditional BB activities of gymnastics , drum and bugle bands etc.
Yours in Scouting
