Easier Eagles

Overall I do not think that the Eagle Rank has gotten easier since I
was a scout in the 60's, except for one thing.
Now it is possible to earn Eagle without Swimming and Lifesaving MBs,
which was not possible back then.
For those like me who never made it because we are Aquatically
Challenged (ie. swim like a rock), the new rules allowing for
Emergency Prep. and either Personal Fitness or Sports would have made
a huge difference.
After being forced to take swimming in college to graduate and at the
age of 43 finally passing the requirements for the swimming MB so I
could go on canoe trips (my rule as SM), it would have made a
difference. I don't even want to think about trying to pass
lifesaving. BTW, both sons made Eagle with swimming and lifesaving,
and are now BSA Lifeguards.
I'm not sure that these changes make Eagle any easier, as the
substitute badges still require a lot of work. It just makes it
fairer for scouts who do not have access to a swimming area to
practice for the MBs.
