The fact is in the eight years that I have been in Scouts, it has not been
hard to get Eagle... all you have to do is stay in long enough, keep your
nose clean, and do the merit badges (which a lot of times are not earned).
I should know that. I have about 10 merit badges that when I look back upon
it, I don't deserve. We spend so much time concentrationg on Eagle and
advancement taht we forget to have fun and most importantly to LEARN. One
year after I got my Eagle, I just realized that I don't know half the
things that I should. I can't light a fire, chop wood. It's pretty sad and
now I am relearning all that. sorry to say, but it seems to me that the
Eagle has been held in such high esteem (which isn't wrong), we seem to
have lost the concept of what being a Scout is and instead have just been
looking for Eagles. whatever that is anyway.
