New Scout On The Block

Michael J Pagelkopf (mjp2@SPARC.ISL.NET)

Hi! My name is Michael Paglkopf. I am new to the Internet and to Scouts-L,
so the learning is just beginning. My service to scouting started in 1987
as a 2nd year Webelos Leader with the pack at our neighborhood school. In
March of '88 I begain serving as the SM for the troop that was revived after
being absent from the school for 10+ yrs. We started new with 2 leaders, 12
new scouts, and alot of questions. Our first experience-summer camp.
Continued as SM until '93 when I left to become the BS RT Commissioner for
our District.

I have earned the Scouters' Key for SM and the commissioner Arrowhead. I am
Wood Badge trained (Bobwhite Patrol, NC273). In 1993 I served as QM for the
council contingent to the 1993 National Boy Scout Jamboree.

My volunter work is for the Hiawatha District of Gamehaven Council in SE
Minnesota. My home is in Rochester, MN. In addition to serving as the BS
RT Commissioner I am also active on the district and council training teams.

My philosophy of scouting is simple - use the Methods of Scouting to achieve
and Aims of Scouting. It is a creed that is echoed at all our roundtable
meetings. The emphasis is that the Methods are not Aims, but that all eight
Methods need to be usedin a quality manner to achieve the Aims of Scouting.

I hope to access information and ideas for my role as RT Commissioner using
Scouts-L that can be shared with our leaders to benifit the scouts they serve.
