Charles,
personally, FWIW, I would either look at another troop perhaps affiliated with my religious organization, or (especially if the troop's memebership and operations suit me) bite my lip and exercise tolerance of the minister's comments. By age 11 or 12 boys understand that different religions exist around them -especially in a public school, so the occasional remarks by the minister should not change anyone's fundamental beliefs. After all, he is the host, speaking in his own facility. And if his facility is like many I have seen, I'm sure there is other evidence of that protestant faith around for all to see.
Without being offensive, I suggest you judge if this church's sponsorship and all that goes along with it is tolerable for you given the friendships and activities of the troop. I would not think you will have hear the minister very often.
