As the School Night For Scouting Traininer in my district, I'll
share a secret wth you. Scouting Night is NOT designed to recruit
boys!! There are many ways of recruiting boys. One of the prime goals
of a Scouting Night should be to impress on the boys' parents the need
for their participation to make the pack and den successful. If you add
the new Cubs to the existing den, you would soon lose your current Den
Leader. The new Wolf scout families need to provide the leadership for
their den. Don't be shy about stating this -- all you're asking is that
they send some time with their own child. I don't know if the "script"
we use in our council is a standard one, but we group all the new Wolves
and their parents at one table and aske them to select among them the
leadership.
I retired as a cubmaster no because I didn't like the job, but
because my boys had crossed over. I believe that the first line of
leadership needs to come from the parents, so that Cub Scouting truly is
a family activity. As SN Coorinator you have an apportunity to present
that attitude to the new families and recruit the leadership that's
needed rather than adding a burden to those who have already chosen to serve.
