Re: Adult Recognitions

Please excuse my use of BSA awards as a basis for this response, but I am
ignorant of the recognition available to adults in the UK.
Regarding the question of district and council scouters getting "all the
awards." What awards are you talking about?; the Cub Scouters Training
Award, the Den Leaders training award, the Tiger Cub Coordinators training
award, the Scouter training award, etc.? Or are you talking about the Silver
Beaver and District Award of Merit? There are far more recognitions for unit
level scouters than there are for district or council level volunteers. It
is important to understand that each recognition is for a different type of
training/service. Only service performed on behalf of the district is
supposed to be recognized for the DAM. Unit level work is recognized with
some of the above named awards.
If you don't work at the unit level, you can't get a unit level award; if you
don't work at the council level you can't get a Silver Beaver. It's really
very simple once you understand the reason for each recognition.

I'm not sure if your system is the same in the UK, but that is how the
structure works in here in BSA. JJMSr
