Many thanks to all of you who responded to my request for messages to the
three Webelos who were working on their Communicator award. They were
quite surprised and thrilled to receive so many personal messages from all
over the world. Dan O'Canna even arranged to be "on" during our meeting and
they were able to exchange messages with him. Needless to say, the boys now
have a much better understanding of on-line communication. They also have a
much greater appreciation of the many Scouters out there who took the time
to send personal encouragement and inspirational thoughts. I've printed out
all the messages that came in for each of the boys, and I hope that in the
future they may contact some of you.
It may seem like a very little thing, but this shows Scouting Spirit at its
best. We may get into wrangles with each other at times over policies,
philosophy, rule interpretations, etc., but the great majority are usually
eager to make a special effort to give the boys a boost. Give yourselves a
well-deserved pat on the back.
By the way, this Friday night all three boys will receive their Arrow of
Light and will cross over into Boy Scouts during the Pack campout--complete
with Indians, drums, and a flaming arrow to light the campfire. We've got
our fingers crossed for dry weather. I'm especially proud, because Aaron,
my younger son, will be joining my Scout troop. I'll be welcoming his as
Scoutmaster, and his older brother, Danny, will be assisting as Senior
Patrol Leader. How much better can it get?
Once again, thanks.
