Ian,
I don't know if you can get any info about the boys in advance of their
arrival or what camp info they may have, but a letter of introduction together
with equipment suggestions and an FAQ about the camp from the voice of
experience might lessen anxiety of parents and especially the new campers.
It might be good to know each boys' rank and interests to plan a tentative
program. The rotating duty roster, pairing new Webelos with experienced scouts,
can be filled in after arrival, patrol formation, and SPL induction.
Please excuse me if I am stating the obvious, but my experience is limited to
our council summer camp, (albeit, a good one) and its program and procedures.
Most of our program choices are planned with the troop in advance and adjusted
after discussion with the boys upon arrival. We use the patrol method
extensively, and all menus are set by the camp but prepared at the troop site
by the boys. I would think it important to mix the boys in the patrols rather
than keep all the boys from the same home area together. The boys less
proficient in English should fit in well if they are not segregated if my
experience with a Peruvian exchange student is typical. Probably depends
a great deal on the boys attitudes.
Good Luck! YiS
