Miked Holmes writes with questions about smoking policy, and there have been
various responses, questions, and comments. As a smoker myself, I have a
question for all:
The scouts in the Troop that I am associated with know that I am a smoker.
Am I to hide my bad habit by going out behind the barn and stealing my
smoke? Isn't that teaching the scouts it is okay to have a bad habit as long
as they hide it?
Possibly, when the scouts see me struggle up a hill, or see me having trouble
passing a swim test, that will teach a lesson far better than trying to hide
the fact that I am a smoker.
