Annual Meeting

Annual Meeting Time: 9:50 AM Date:4/28/95
Hi Scouters,

Last night I went to the Patriots' Trail Girl Scout Council Annual meeting.
I was a delegate from our Service Unit. It was the first time I had been to
an annual meeting. The meeting was held at the Newton Marriott. It was a
dinner followed by the business and the recognitions.

I decided to share the evening with all of you because there were several
moments which brought smiles and tears of joy to my eyes. The business part
was ok, the elections boring (more or less pre-decided) and the speechs by
different members of the various committees on the long and drawn out side.
The high point of the business section was the leaving presidents speech.
She reminded us of why Girl Scouting and scouting in general was important
"inspiring girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism
and service" She was truely sad to leave but was ready to be a "average"
person again.

The recognitions part was wonderful. Seeing all of those Senior Scouts
standing there receiving a standing ovation from the leaders and scouters who
had helped raise them was touching. They are the reason for everything we
do, put up with and strive for! The list of accomplishments was amazing!
The level of pride I had for these girls most of whom I didn't know but did
because they were there because they too believed in the Promise and the Law

The adult recognitions was the part however that truely brought tears to my
eyes. Women receiving Badges of Thanks, Thanks You awards, 65 year pin (and
she was in her original leaders uniform - hat and all!) etc. To see those
role models for me and for the graduating Senior Scouts. I hope some day I
get a 65 year pin too! The honor we paid to those who had given their best
to our bright stars-it touched me. I hope that you all have the opportunity
to share in such a joyous celebration of scouting this year!

Here is the agenda for those interested. Since I had never been to one of
these before I found it very interesting to see how "corporate" the whole
process was.
