SEA EXPLORING GOES ONLINE

BRUCE C JOHNSON (JOHNSON@MAIL.LOC.GOV)
Wed, 12 Apr 1995 09:59:09 EST

I am pleased to announce that the National Sea Exploring
Committee has decided to improve its communications by utilizing
the Internet. Three types of uses have been established and
approved.

(1) Discussion of Sea Exploring-related issues will take
place over the Explorer-net listserv host. Any issues of general
interest to Sea Exploring should be posted on Explorer-net.
Explorer-net's address is "explorer-net@erda.rl.af.mil".
Questions about Explorer-net should be addressed to Paul Ratazzi
at ratazzi@erda.rl.af.mil or Greg Wickline at gwicklin@ball.com.
Specific issues that should be addressed by the National Sea
Exploring Committee may be sent directly to me (and NOT
Explorer-net) at johnson@mail.loc.gov.

(2) Sea Exploring related data and text files will be
available shortly via anonymous FTP (File Transfer Protocal) at
pluto.utdallas.edu in the "scouting/sea-expl" sub-directory.
This FTP site is currently experiencing technical difficulties
but should be operational shortly. The files initially available
will include clipart and some text files related to promoting Sea
Exploring. Sea Exploring/Sea Scouting leaders are encouraged to
submit additional files. (They should be sent to the "uploads"
directory of pluto.utdallas.edu.) We are particularly interested
in program support and training related materials. Please send
me an e-mail when you've sent a new file so that I can work with
the site administrator to keep our sub-directory up-to-date.

(3) A Sea Exploring World Wide Web home page has been
established at http://iquest.com/~hyper/Scouts/sehp.html. It's
still pretty sketchy. If you have materials you'd like to see
added, please contact me first. We will be adding to it, with
calendars of events being among our highest priorities. If you
have specific information about Sea Exploring/Sea Scouting events
in your area, please pass them along to me as long in advance as
you can.

The National Sea Exploring Committee would like to thank
those who have helped to bring this project to fruition. Whether
this project is helpful in the long run depends on you. Please
let us know what you feel works and what you think could use
improvement. We are particularly looking for additional files
and information about events to share with others.

Thank you for your support of Sea Exploring. We will look
forward to hearing from you.
