Another Badge at a Historic Site

Norman MacLeod wrote to Paul about all the things that could be done at
Gettysburg Camporees and in the area of Merit Badges he listed

> Historical Trails Award

May I also nominate AMERICAN HERITAGE Merit Badge? While other troops focus
on Philmont Desert Hikes, my troops PLC prefers Historical Site Campouts.
This badge is one of the first nearly every scout in my troop earns. When
we went to Chickamauga which was 170 miles from Griffin Georgia we played
Historic Period Songs in the bus, read Civil War Era Newspaper Reprints, and
even watched a PG version of Gettysburg and Glory.

While there we hiked one of the trails, answered questions, watched the
visitors center lazer show, etc.

The point I make is, anytime a troop visits any of our Civil War sites like
Gettsburg, Vicksburg, Shilo, or Chickamauga & others they really should look
at doing this Merit Badge.

(Any By the Way) Troop 12 od Griffin Georgia has participated in three
successful efforts to get buildings or sites added to the state or national
register of historic places. Our troop is a member of the National Trust for
Historic Preservation and two of our scouts have gone onto colleges to major
in historic preservation fields in Architecture and Museum Administration.
