Why age requirements at all? Why not rank requirements? I have a large
troop and I am taking 2 crews in 96'. I have quite a few Star and Life
scouts unable to go because of the age requirement. These scouts are fully
trained and experienced backpackers and it breaks my heart to have to tell
them "they are not qualified".
We do a lot of backpacking in high altitude and since I have been to Philmont
I see no reason why these scouts would not have a successful trek.
