A great place to camp between Miami and the Sea Base is John Pennekamp
Coral Reef State Park. It is located at mile marker 102.5 north of Key
Largo, FL. Nothing really spectacular about the campsites themselves,
but the park contains 70 nautical square miles of coral reefs, seagress
beds, and mangrove swamps. If you want to enjoy some snorkeling on the
way to base as an appetizer for your upcoming adventure, this is the
place. You can do the glass bottom boat, the regular 90 minute tourist boat
snorkeling trip, or do what my troop does; get some charts and rent a
boat from the concessionaire at the park, it adds to the adventure.
