Cooking, scouts vs leaders

Hi,
I'm a cubscout leader from the Netherlands. In my group, cooking is done by
the scouts themselfs.
From the time I was a scout myself (which is at least ten years ago), I
remember that the leaders took care of buying all the ingredients for the
meal. That way, they knew for sure the meals had enough variety and
nutricious value. All the 'patrouilles' (subgroups) cook the same meal. That
way, if you don't understand the recipe, you can first ask an other
'patrouille' how they solve that problem. But most of the time, you can ask
within your own 'patrouille' how some thing have to be done. Because of the
variety of ages within a 'patouille', the young scouts learn by doing it and
asking there older fellow-scouts (who have done it before). That way, the
boys learn from each other (and the leaders have some time off ;^D ).
In cases when food is not eatable due to a mistake in preparing it, the
leaders allways have some food left, or the boys split up and 'eat out' at
another 'patrouille'. The next meal(s) is/are then prepared with the help of
a leader.
Finally, during a summerscamp the groups participate in a one day
cooking-event, where they may all make their own menu, buy their own
ingredients and prepare them as good as possible. These meals are tasted by
all the leaders, and they judge the meals on nutricous value, variety,
hygiene while preparing and eating, and not as least: the taste of it. The
winner usually gets some inscripted kitchen-object as trophy.

P.S. Don't pay any attention to spelling mistakes, I'm just a foreigner :)
