Here are the cookie program in Michigan Trails
We use ABC Bakers. Cookies cost $2.50 (hearing from other councils maybe
I should expect cost increase next year!)
Bakers get $.80
Troop gets $.27
Service Unit gets $.05
Girl recognitions is $.22
the rest goes to council -- Camps, Opportunity fund and programming,
training, etc
Girl recognition this year;
Girl gets a cookie patch for selling at least 12 boxes of cookies.
Additionally they earn points for every 12 boxes sold. The use the points
to "purchase" the recognitions. This year they include:
3 pts - Koala Pewter Figurine
4 pts - Mini Wipe-off Board
5 pts - Koala Necklace
8 pts - mini-Sport Bottle
9 pts - Guatemalan Bag
11 pts - Small Earthmate Koala
14 pts - Sweatshirt
Also, each girl selling cookies earns Cookie Dough. They receive $1 for
every 5 boxes sold. For every girl selling over 420 boxes they can earn $1
for every 4 boxes. Earning Cookie Dough starts with the first box sold. I
have heard in some councils that they only earn cookie dough on boxes
over 100 sold.
Cookie Dough can be used for Camp fees, Wider OPS fees, any council
activity fees, uniform, books or any GSUSA item purchased thru the council
shop or at the camp store. There are also a series of special things in
the council shop that can only be purchased with cookie dough. I am not
going to itemize it here.
Cadettes and Seniors can choose to get extra troop profit (I think 5 cents)
if they did not take the recognitions but the whole troop has to agree to
do that.
In our Service Unit -- everyone loves the cookie dough. But everyone
thinks the recognitions are pretty poor. Think about this -- a girl has to
sell 8 cases of cookies to get a sport bottle that they can purchase at the
Dollar store for $1. This year I had only half of my cadette troop
selling cookies. They are just burned out on fund raisers. They are all
in other organizations that are also trying to raise funds by selling,
selling, selling, selling. Between my two kids - one Girl Scout and one
Boy Scout, each in band and other activities -- it is not unusual to have 2
or 3 fund raisers happening at the same time. It is burning out everyone!
But after hearing from some of the other councils -- I guess we are getting
a better deal because we get more cookie dough.
