Webelos Woods Demos

Our district has held two very successful Webelos Woods programs and I'd be
more than pleased to send anyone my complete file on it. Marc Solomon asked
for suggestions on cooking...

I have no recipes to offer, but this *very strong* recommendation based on
the evaluations we received back from the Webelos, their parents, and
observations: if the purpose of Webelos Woods is to attract Webelos to
Scouting in general and your troop in particular (as we do, and that's why we
consider it to be a Membership activity, not a Camping activity), then you
should *let your Scouts do the work, demos, etc.*, and be advisors, observers
-- as you should be in your normal troop activities.

Webelos want to see that *they* will be doing. Boys at this age want to
*do*, to be given the opportunity to make mistakes and make masterpieces.
When they see a troop where the Scouts are watching, they get turned off big
time quick!

Good luck! I'm a very firm believer in Webelos Woods and can demonstrate its
direct positive impact on Boy Scout recruitment.
