In commercial and even State/National Park parlance, "primitive" is any
camp area that does not have a pad to pull your trailor/RV onto or where
you are required to pitch your tent. The primitive areas have grass or
bare ground for tent pitching. Some, mostly the government parks, limit
waste facilities to Port-a-Johns(tm) or covered pit toilets like at Scout
camps with a central water source. It's hard to find what we Scouts would
call primitive in todays campgrounds.
