Cooking, Scouts vs. Leaders

In our Troop, the Scouts prepare their own menus, shop for their own food,
and then cook the meals. The adults, as a "patrol" do the same for
themselves. There are times when the Scouts, who have prepared hot dogs
*again* drift over to the adults cooking area to salivate over the lucious
stews and hearty breakfasts. After such graphic lessons, the Scout meal
plans become more inventive and delicious.

Our Committee has begun to collect meal plans in a notebook -- one section
for Scouts and one section for adults -- which include number of servings,
cost of food, preparation hints and likability rating. After each campout,
the report is filed ready for reference before the next campout. Hopefully,
this will synergize the learning process and improve the overall quality of
food prepared by everyone. A little competition is good over a hot stove!
