Don,
I agree with your premise that the Boy Scout camping experience
should not be an extension of home. In addition to an introduction to some
survival skill training, and perhaps more important, is an introduction to
the real world of nature around us. Camping should present the opportunity
to appreciate the balances of nature, ecological systems, see some of God's
creatures not usually seen in an urban environment, and develop self-reliance.
I could go on, but it was best described in the program developed by B-P:).
