We have the patrols plan their menu for a members of the patrol and one
guest. This way the adults are also covered.

I do go one step beyond though. Having to be carefull of my blood sugar, I
always have food for myself. When on a campout I need to be carefull and
can not hope that the scouts have all the bases covered. As the Scouter
over the new scout patrol this has come in very handy. It has also been an
excelent teaching tool. The first campout with new scouts and their choice
of menus is always an adventure. When the new scouts forget to bring their
assigned food items and do not have a full meal I have to resort to my
emergency food which is in quantities for one. When the boys are less then
satisfied and then they see what I am eating... well let's just say that
with each new scout patrol this only happens on the first outing, after
that they eat like kings.

This has almost become a tradition that the new scouts are hungry on their
first campout but not by design. We always warn them ahead of time and
explain what has happened in the past but I guess there is only so much
that can be taught by words while the rest of the lessons are learned by
experience.
