I disagree with the preceding statement. As a Unit Commissioner, I use many
(if not most) of the 11 leadership skills in dealing with the functions of
my position. As for reinforcing my enthusiasm and commitment to Scouting, I
found this VERY valuable. When I worked as an Asst. Scoutmaster, I found
the boys a constant source for reinforcing my enthusiasm and commitment. As
a Unit Commissioner, I do not interact as much with the boys, and therefore
do not have that same source.
As for there being no value to my understanding what Wood Badge is about, I
addamantly disagree. Part of my job description includes promoting training
of Scouters within my district. I can not promote anything well I do not
have personal knowledge of.
And lastly the part about having shared the experience with other Scouters
is very important. Being new to my District and Council, I found going
through Wood Badge with Scouters in my Council as very helpful. They now
know me and where I stand. The contacts I made while taking Wood Badge have
helped considerately in making my job easier (Of course the fact that the
Committee Chairman for the my Wood Badge troop turned out to be the
Scoutmaster of the first unit I was assigned as Unit Commisioner did help).
