I'm back - First Year Program

Bill O'Connell (OCONNEWJ@CNSVAX.UWEC.EDU)
Mon, 20 Mar 1995 10:59:38 -0600

I'm back - after a thankful spring back, I'm back on Scouts-L. I spent most of
my spring break writing the program for the first year program (also watching
basketball). I'm at the point now where I need some information . . .

1) If person learns best when he/she is learning by hands on experience. I
truly believe that any requirement we do MUST involve some hands on. The
Scouts will learn best when they are active. They don't come to camp for
boring lectures. When anyone of you do things in your troop and/or camp, make
sure the Scouts are active.
- I'm seeking information on different activities to do things. I have been
a lot of information through wood wisdom book, but I know others have creative
ways in doing things. If anyone has done things for the first year program in
your troop or at camp, please let me know. For example games, challenges, ways
of doing things, etc. I want the Scouts active in doing fun things, but at the
same time learning the skill.

- ALSO does anyone know if there is a First Year Program book any where. I
have asked my council and they have not heard of a book. Others have said
through Scouts-L that there is a book out there for the First Year Program. If
there is one, please let me know and where, if possible, I can get one.

I plan on typing the program up by Middle April so I need as much input as
possible!

Thanks

Bill O'Connell
