In my troop the entire troop elects the SPL, and then the patrols elect their
PLs. Those are our only elected positions (except for the SPL-elect serving 3
months as ASPL before taking office and then again after leaving office, which
I explained in a post yesterday). Everything else is appointed by the SPL or
PL, depending on if it is a troop or patrol office.

Of course, the JASMs are all appointed by the Scoutmaster, like required. (Or
is it the troop committee. I forget. Anyway, it's the way it is found in
whatever handbook it is in...)
