Avon Council & Scouts

Rod Keen (Rod@IVECOFT.DEMON.CO.UK)

Hello all
I just wanted to pass on something that has happened over here that has made
my blood boil! It has to do with one of the "old subjects" which is why I
didn't put it in the title! so you would read it before deleting

In the UK Scout Groups _may_ get a _very_ small grant from the local council.

It has now been reported in most papers over here that Avon County Council
has decided that the Scout Groups are rich enough to make it on their own and
therefore have given the grant that was for the Scouts to...wait for it
The Bristol Lesbians & Bisexual womens Group!
I'm lost for words!

Please dont think that I'm anti gay (as long as they leave my kids & Cubs alone)
its just the very patronising way A.N. Wilson of the Evening Standard reported
this. It makes it sound as though ALL Boy/Girl Scout/Guide/Brigade units are
rolling in spare cash or have just won the lottery jackpot when the opposite is
often the truth. The article makes Scouting look as though it hasn't never got
out of the long shorts and wide hats era, suffering burnt sausages and singing
pathetic songs around "jolly camp fires"

I will be putting fingers to keyboard over this idiot. When I find out the Email
address of the Standard I will post it here.
In the mean time if you want to add your voice to mine the article was in the
Evening Standard on 3rd March 95 on page 11 written by AN Wilson, entitled
Be prepared for anything.
The snail address of the Standard is
Associated Newpapers Ltd
Northcliffe House
2 Derry Street
London
W8 5TT
(England)
