President Nixon did not make the Jamboree in 1969. According to one of my
Jamboree Journals, Irving Feist President BSA, Alden G. Barber, Chief
Scout Executive, and Dwight J Thomson Jamobree Camp Chief sent President
Nixon a letter. In the letter they expressed regret that his schedule did
not permit him to vissit. It talked about the highlight for the Jamboree,
as for the world the the successful moon walk by "Eagle Scout Astronaut
Neil Armstrong and his companion Astronaut Edwin Aldrin." and that we were
delighted to welcome Colonel Frank Borman as your (President Nixon's)
personal representative.
It closed with " Our prayers for your safety go with you on your forthcoming
trip in search for world peace."
