Hello..
That whole Cyberspace-Jamboree topic is a classical example how to
ruin good ideas when you try to impose bureaucratical standards on
it. I don't want to mention other critical points in the planning of
the 18th World Jamboree (e.g. the home hospitality or the rules for
Visitors)...but it seems to me that some people fear the
impact of using eletronical means of communication. I am used to the
standard procedures of having contact with other scout organisations,
but if you can contact people directly: why bother your International
Commissioner about it (only because we have done it this way in the
past ??)
The answer of the Jamboree Secretary (Mrs. Ritzema) that no
other channels than the OFFICIAL WOSM channels will be used for
communicating sounds ignorant at best...
I can understand the difficulties of arranging such things as the
Cyberspace jamboree but i dont think this is the real problem. The
real problem is the question of wheter you want people to participate
in such an event or not. As i sense it from the answers: its a NO..
So here is the real heretical thought: all participants which have
one: bring your notebook or laptop and link up from a local phone on
the jamboree site...:-))...and: dont even think of smoking POTt in
HOLLAND
QUESTION AUTHORITY !!
Yours in Scouting....
