About the Cyberspace Jamboree on the 18th WJ

Olaf Tuinder (O.N.E.Tuinder@FYS.RUU.NL)
Fri, 24 Feb 1995 13:27:34 +0100

=> The Jamboree Organisation says:

=> * "It is absolutely not our intention to start a very expensive
=> Cyberspace activity during the world jamboree."

It will cost a lot of money,..... That's for sure.

=> * "Furthermore, the various computer network which will
=> exist there (Compu Serve, Internet), will NOT be used as communication
=> channel by the world jamboree organization."

I have asked the jamboree secretary, Mrs. Ritzema if they would like to
have the programme-information of the jamboree, or the bulletins they are
sending to the contingents on Internet.
She said: NO! The official policy is that communication is allowed ONLY
through OFFICIAL channels of the WOSM. Internet is not an 'official'
channel, and will, therfore, NOT be used by the organisation to
communicate with third parties. Not even the bulletins are allowed to be
on Internet, because the contingent leader of each country must decide
for himself if there are parts of information he wants to hold back from
his staff...... (!!!!!????)

> (parts deleted)

the Cyberspace jamboree was a problem because:
> .... as CompuServe Perth didn't have the neccessary phone lines)

The 18th world jamboree also has a limited number of telephone lines
available. The organisation comes first, then the programme activities.

I would like to remind you to the message from Richard Middelkoop on feb.
21st. We are trying to do something with Internet. But don't rush.

Yours In Scouting,

Olaf Tuinder.
