You _do_ know that used to be done!
The BSA would license certain clothiers to make uniforms for them.
There were also (apparently) manufacturers doing this without the approval
of the BSA. I have a 1933 Scouting magazine. In it is an advertisement
from Sweet Orr Distributors, Inc. saying, "Scout Leaders Protect Your boys
from 'Gyp' Uniforms!..."
Old magazines are fun to read...
