My understanding is that the way that Northwest and all other American
flag airline display the flag is correct. It you think about it the flag is
painted to reflect the way a flag would appear if it were actually attached to
plane hooks in the normal manner. The movement of the plane would cause
the flag to extend as it is painted.
That is the way its always been explained to me. HOpe that helps.
