Re: Are you afraid?

My last post on this...

I have the fortunate pleasure of volunteering in an
industry where there are LOTS of lawsuits.

I recently had to give a deposition against an individual
who ran into a tree, the skis came off but they broke their leg.

They are sueing the ski area and the rental company
because she hit a tree and wants REALLY BIG BUCKS.
Somehow its the areas fault that she can't avoid running
into trees.

I KNOW I am covered for treating her injuries, and
the professionalism I displayed and the law suit is NOT against
ME, but against the ski area and the ski rental company.

She could attach me into the suit (if I had a large bank
account and a beautiful house.) EASY!

-------------------------------------------------------------

I believe that it is STUPID, not brave to protect oneself
against people like this. I thank Mr. Sherman for his
slug poetry. Don't know if it was directed to me.

If I followed the 2 deep leadership at a campout and
there was a boy that claimed illicit activity
(which were found to never happen) and I was
removed from my job from the publicity, I lost my friends and my
family was shunned EVEN THOUGH IT WAS UNTRUE,
would BSA provide me the ability or the funding to make a living?

I don't know.

Your example about insurence with cars etc. is easy especially
when you talk about death. If I am killed, then I cease to
really care on earth so once again, its not the same.

There should be a 13th law and that a person is SMART about
their on-goings.

Black and white is wonderfully easy but foolish because
there are people that would like everything YOU own
and you may give them that chance some day.

Susan,

You are right about education and following the letter of the law.
You are smart and your message was right on!

I opted for insurence because an attacker does not follow the rules.

I enjoy scouting very much and have been involved in it for
7 years. I have found lots of friendships but I am cautious
in protecting myself.

We had a scout just before my time
with the troop that threatened the adults and
strained the 2 deep leadership system. The SM stated to me
that he was completely AFRAID of this kid.

Yup, I'm Afraid... Be careful out there!
