Out here on the west side of Chicago, our district runs an annual competition
for Boy Scout Patrols. We use 2nd year Webelos scouts as the victims, made up
to look like the real thing; compound fractures, running blood (red water in
an IV bag controlled by the judge), burns, shock, etc. The makeup is done by
volunteer paramedics and each patrol is assigned a judge for each problem who
scores the patrol from a checklist type scoresheet. The boys really enjoy it
and learn a bit about the actual practice of first aid.
