ADMINISTRATIVE: Scouts-L Overworked

Jon Eidson (EIDSON@TCUBVM.IS.TCU.EDU)
Tue, 31 Jan 1995 08:29:45 CST

Hey folks ...

Time for some administrative notes. PLEASE READ!!!

As of late, SCOUTS-L has well over 1,000 members and continues to
grow. I personally feel the reason for its success can be attributed
to the quality of the postings and the attitude of its members towards
each other ... we're kind of like a big family. But with growth,
comes growing pains ... ie "list overload" :-)

Soooo ... Here are some needed reminders:

Read the SCOUTS-L WELCOME file
------------------------------
There is a lot of info in the WELCOME file that is REQUIRED reading.
Print out a copy and READ IT! If you have any suggested updates, please
let me know via private email.

Use PRIVATE email
-----------------
When replying to a question, consider using private email first. Messages
that say "Welcome", "Congratulations", "I agree", and the like belong
on private email and NOT the list. Take the time to LEARN how to you
your email package and how to reply to an individual and NOT the list.

Dont Quote Message
------------------
I find MANY people abuse quoting replyed messages and dont take the trouble
to edit ANY of the material. The rule of thumb on LISTSERV is DO NOT QUOTE
(unless your are will to take the time to use it properly and quote only
the 1 or 2 lines required.)

50 Message/Day Limit
--------------------
I case many have forgotten, there is a 50 message/day limit which I will
NOT change. Is your posting a "quality" posting? Has it followed all
the above rules? Then go ahead and post your message. I find that 99%
of the time that someone else has ALREADY reflected my views and that
there is no need to post the point again.

Anyway, thats all for now. Thanks to everyone and all they do in
Scouting all over the world -- its people like you that make a difference
... one child at a time.

Yours in Scouting,
Jon Eidson, Listowner Scouts-L (J.Eidson@tcu.edu)
