Some of the responses just goes to show why there is a need to have
several ceremonies in your files for each rank. I'm a firm believer in
awarding the boys at the very next pack meeting. At the Cub Scout
age we stress instant recognition (i.e. the instant recog kits for Wolf
and Bear). If you don't want to make the big impressive AOL
ceremony seem old hat by doing more than once each year, then
have a couple of other ceremonies that you can use. Last year
at Roundtable, a CM showing us his ceremony props recommended
doing each rank (Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, AOL) only once per
year. The reason is because the ceremonies manual says one of
the rules for GOOD ceremonies is that they should be fresh and
not used over and over again every month. Having only one
opportunity to earn a rank each year, or having to wait many months
after earning it before the boy receives it is definitely wrong.
