A "Poor" Leader

I have to agree with Marc Solomon. My DE will sometimes
lament about the quality of effort from District volunteers.
Sometimes they do not have the enthusiasm and dedication
to follow through like they should. Maybe a special function
does not go as well as we'd like. At those times I remind
the DE that when you are asking for freebies you can't
complain about what you get. And so you can't complain
about the quality of volunteer help. Maybe you distribute
responsibility according to each individual's reliability.
But don't turn away a volunteer unless they fail to satisfy
the minimum BSA requirements (age, citizenship, legal
record, etc.).
