}My point was to not make AOL ceremony (usually a
}big show) part of B&G and thus overshadow the Wolf and Bear awards that
}are often given at B&G. Webelos are usually recognized at almost every
}pack meeting (with activity pins). Many of the other cubs have received
}nothing all year and when they finally earn their Wolf or Bear, their ceremony
}is one of many, not one of a few.
In the pack I was in, we made a big deal out of Bobcat, Wolf, Bear,
Webelos and AOL. We didn't do a big ceremony for Webelos activity
pins, arrow points or segments. We tried to make each rank
advancement special.
Last year was the first year we had any advancement at B&G. We
noramally had the pack meeting at the beginning of the month. The B&G
was actually our March meeting held at the end of Feb.. The council
started pushing for a Feb. or March crossover into Scouts. (They
didn't realize the Nov. was too late to start this push.) By the Feb.
meeting not all the boys would be ready. So, we had Arrow light and
Cross over at B&G.
BTW, the other ceremony we make a big deal of is at the end of the
year, we cross all the boys into the next age level. We have the OA
involved in that ceremony. (Our other ceremonies are of the same
style, but the OA ceremonies are more pollished.) The only boys that
get a shorter ceremony are the boys that don't finish their rank
advancement until cross over night. That night, we do one ceremony
for all the ranks. It's still a nice ceremony.
What I'm saying is the B&G may be the best time for a ceremony. We
tried to make all the rank advancement special. We tried to do the
rank advancement as soon as possible. (Both Webelos dens decided they
wanted to have the AOL ceremony all at the same time. Most had
started in Tigers together and they wanted to finish together.)
