I did that about two months back while inquiring about Cly for a
Scouter here (no names; they wanted to know if it was kosher to send
him some patches for his museum and after talking with SEVERAL folks
from the Great Smokey Mountain Council (the local Council where Cly's
museum is located), I got the same response.

THERE IS, however, a "International Scouting Retreat and Museum" which
does exist in a small town about midway between Knoxville and
Chattanooga, Tennessee (this is where Cly says that the museum is
sited) and the local Councils in both Knoxville and Chattanooga use
that site for various meetings and activities, from what I understand.
I don't know if Cly was the curator or the property owner, just that
the site exists. When I drove there enroute to a military meeting in
Knoxville (Oak Ridge) about four months back, I did get to the gate
but not to the cabin.

Further, I've asked both of the international patch traders
associations to tell me if they've had any negative information about
Cly. One has not heard of him; the other has and have several *very
angry* people with bad checks in their hands waiting their turns for
him, if he can be found.

Finally, I haven't been home today so I couldn't place some personal
calls to see "what's the deal". However, when I was doing the
background search for the other person that wanted to contribute some
patches from their nation, I *did* get some information that he is NOT
registered as a Scouter presently (which really don't mean a whole
lot), but was registered as a member of the Council Outdoor Activities
Committee in several Councils in the past. As far as I'm aware, he's
NOT on the Southern Region's "undesirables" listing (which again,
don't say anything except that for one of several reasons, the BSA has
chose not to allow him to register; as I've explained several times,
the lack of registration does NOT prevent you from contributing
positively to the program or to a unit...it does prevent you from
being there in an "official capacity").

I *do NOT* condone "witch hunts", electronically or otherwise. If
Clyde/Cly has *not* conducted business with you right, chalk it up to
a bad trade and move FORWARD (there's nothing wrong with telling
others that you've had a bad trade with him, though).

I'm not on ANY side here, folks...I just believe in sharing and
getting ALL of the information that is possible out there. John, I
can personally appreciate your anger and your frustration, but the
massing of personal messages is kinda like going through people's
personal garbage cans or peering in their drawers (even if others were
willing to share their private conversations with you).

For the record, as I've stated when I first came on this forum many
moons ago, if you send to me PRIVATELY, that's how I'll answer it. If
you send to me through the LIST, I'll answer it here and by answering
it here, give you permission to share it which whomever you wish. If
you want to share a personal reply from me, please write me or call
me. In most cases, I would be more than happy to let you share my
personal responses to your questions with whomever. Likewise, if
there's something that you've said that I want to share with the
entire list (or Jessiann) (or anyone else), I WILL ASK YOU and will
NOT act on it until I get a "yeah" or "forget it" from you.

Jessica doesn't read my personal mail unless her name's in it;
likewise, I don't read her personal mail unless my name's in it. It
keeps us both honest to the people whom write seeking honest (and in
my case, long and sometimes boring) answers from people whom love to
write and talk and find out for you.
