Re: Info on Past Eagles (Tr 82)

Do ask around at your council office. I was trying to reconstruct an
Eagle list for Troop 24, working from old charters, when I discovered
there was a book listing them that dated back to the beginnings of the
Berkeley Council in 1916. There was nothing fancy about this book,
with most of the names entered on typewritten pages and inserted into a
looseleaf binder now known as the Eagle Book. But because our council
holds an annual dinner honoring all of the new Eagles of the past year,
there was someone to record who they were and from what troop. Someone
had the foresight to keep track of them all the way back.

Check also old issues of the council newsletter; these often will
announce new Eagle Scouts.

Also, ask former Scouts from Troop 82. After I had started my project, I
discovered that one of our former Scouts and Scoutmaster (he joined Troop 24
in 1932 at age 12 and has been continuously registered ever since -- he still
counsels the Citizenship merit badges for most of our Scouts) kept a board
with pictures of all of the Eagles from the late 30's when he received his
to the late 70's when he stepped down as Scoutmaster the last time. I also
got to hear stories about them as well, something he normally shared only
with the Scouts.
