The term Co-ed, does indeed refer to co-education of both male and female
students. The practice of referring to female students as co-ed's comes
from the time when all male schools were first switching to a
co-educational environment. The males already established at the schools
referred to the females as co-ed's and that practice has stuck with us,
so you will often see female students referred to this way.
