Re: Units Living Together Hel...

To all -

Michael Holmes' comments re: PTAs/PTOs abandoning Scouting are quite
revealing. I confess that I had not thought of the potential legal liability
angle and it was good of Michael to clear up that point.

Our Pack here in Carmel IN is sponsered by VFW Post 10004, not the PTO. We
do hold our meetings at the elementary school from which we recruit most
(all?) of our Cubs. The VFW Post doesn't have a facility large enough for
us. We don't pay rent for the Pack Meeting room, or the Jr. High gym where
we hold our Derby Day, or the High School's cafeteria where the B&G is held.

The school allows us to send a flyer home with all boys at the beginning of
the school year. We hold School Night in the cafeteria where our Pack
Meeting is held. Scouting is held in relatively high esteme here. Although
we "compete" with all of the sports programs available today we do try to
accommodate them. Most of our parents seem to feel that Scouting provides
something for their boys that just isn't available in the sports programs. I
heartily concur with that, and while I'm glad my son has participated in
soccer, I'm very pleased that he finds Cub Scouting rewarding.

Just wanted to clear up a few points. Regards,

John Waidner
